About Mumbai

Residing on west coast of India, Mumbai, the city that never sleeps is a cultural representative of modern India. Sky-scrapers, attractive old and new architectures and beautiful landscapes made this city fourth most popular city in the world. Today’s Mumbai is the biggest business hub in India holding 21 millions of Indians from different parts of India. The city houses some premier scientific and nuclear institutes like BARC, TIFR, NPCL, IREL, AERB, AECI, DAE and last but not the least, IIT Bombay.

The name Mumbai was coined from the local Goddess Mumbadevi. A group of seven islands from the kingdom of Ashoka, the famous Buddhist emperor of India had formed the Mumbai city. After independence, the city expanded its territory and suburban small towns were included within the city to shape the present Mumbai city.
