ASICON 2011

Thank you letter for the Faculty

Dear Faculty,

Wish you a Very Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Eventful New Year ahead!

Hope after your hectic schedule at the ASICON 2011 in Lucknow, midst of un-unprecedented cold and traffic disruption and panic created by a political rally in Lucknow coinciding your departure, you are back to daily routine. Some of the esteemed faculty could not make it, though they were conceptually with us from long distances. Delegate missed their presentations, but at least they were benefited of abstracts and look forward to the full length articles..

It is time to take stock of the ASICON 2011 from 16-18 Dec. and pre-conference events on 15th Dec. in the ancient city of Nawabs and Kebabs!

On behalf of the organising committee of the 4th National Conference of AIDS Society of India including my co-chairs Dr T N Dhole (Local), Dr. S K Katiyar (Reception) and Dr.J K Maniar (Advisory) and Scientific Co-chairs Dr R R Gangakhedkar, Dr. G D Ravindran and Dr. Preeti Mehta, I thank you very much for your valuable scientific as well as organisational inputs in the ASICON 2011. I hope you too enjoyed speaking and chairing session(s) and various interactions insides and ouytside the hall(s) at ASICON 2011.

We hope you liked the scientific sessions and enjoyed the cultural extravaganza including the Carnatic-Instrumental Jugalbandi (in Hall on 16th Dec.); Qawwali (in hall on 17th Dec.) and Mushaira as well as Live DJ Band in the food court respectively. We tried choosing the best of the available programs to the suitability of taste of Indians and foreign guests.

We chose the best possible menu on all the days from Breakfast to Dinners. Even tea-breaks were planned with hot snacks, but unfortunately many of you could not use it, as official tea-breaks were abandoned.

We tried our best to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, despite we all being from different cities/towns other than Lucknow, barring the local team headed by Dr. Dhole. We were working under tremendous pressures of cancellations of speakers, flight disruptions, cold-0wave, fog, political turmoil both in the National Capital and Lucknow leading to cancellation of our invited guests and adverse circumstances man-made as well as natural; which were beyond our volitional controls. This also affected the expected good attendance, despite this being the first HIV meets in Uttar Pradesh. Even people from shortest distances could not commute due to bad weather conditions.

Whatever best we have done, by expanding our capacities, I am sure there could have been still some lacunae. We assure you the same will be taken care of and the conference will be further improvised during ASICON 2012 at Bangalore (around November, the dates and exact venue will be finalised in next 1-2 months). Please forgive us for any lapses on our part, particularly when the sudden unseasonal extreme cold played spoil-sport midst our spirited last-minute efforts.

Your fullest involvement in the scientific deliberation, overcoming temptations for sight-seeing avenues, has indeed been responsible for making the conference valuable for the delegates who had come from all over the country. Each of them had a very high praise for the faculty.

We look forward to your similar cooperation and involvement in the future activities of AIDS Society of India. Please feel free to share your comments, suggestions and critic; which will help us in improvement in the planning process of our future endeavours.

The conference like this has to be seen in entirety. At the end I would like to give credit for all the success, if you think to one and all, standing behind the conference as rocks and any blame or failure should come to my credit, as I decided to take-up this responsibility on my shoulder even risking failure! Only those who make effort can fail or can dream of success. Failure is the first step towards the success!

Hoping to see you again, with added vigour and with your other colleagues who will be interested in ASICON and other ASI activities.

The Conference DVD with real-time presentations with captions etc. will be ready withing a month and will be sent to you at your registered address.

This time we have planned a Post-Conference Proceeding book with full length articles; which could become a memorable hard-bound volume on AIDS in India.

Please take out some time and send your detailed article with illustrations/photographs/graphics etc.

Thanking you once again.
Sincerely yours,

Dr. I S Gilada,
